Minister of State and Government Spokesman, Theodoros Rousopoulos, announced today the assistance that the Greek government has offered to the victims of hurricane ‘Katrina’:
“Our country has offered to contribute with emergency humanitarian aid to meeting the consequences of the disaster, to bringing help to the victims, and to the restoration of the damage caused in the ‘Katrina’ hurricane disaster. Greece’s offer of aid includes the following: fist, emergency humanitarian and food relief aid channelled through the European Union; second, sending a contingent from the Special Catastrophe Aid Squad; and thirdly, the provision of two passenger ships to house the homeless in the months ahead. The offer of the two ships was at once accepted by the American authorities. The Foreign Ministry is in touch, through our representatives there, with the State Department in order to facilitate requests from relatives in Greece for information about the fate of Greek-Americans in the disaster area.”
