Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas participated in Brussels (December 3-4) in the proceedings of the NATO Foreign Ministerial Council.
Speaking to reporters after the Council’s conclusion, Droutsas noted that an important decision had been taken for the Western Balkans: "We discussed the Alliance’s Open Door Policy and we decided on Montenegro’s joining the Membership Action Plan (MAP)," he said.
While, on the issue of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), there had been a reaffirmation of the Bucharest decision: that the prior resolution of the name issue is a prerequisite for this country’s accession to NATO.
Droutsas also underlined the important role played by Greece in reactivating the NATO-Russia Council, in Corfu, during the Informal Meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers held there in June.
