The existence of a Greek-U.S. agreement to pass on information gain through phone-tapping - reported by the newspaper "To Vima" - was strenuously denied by the government on Tuesday.
"There is no agreement regarding phone-tapping. There is an agreement, the groundwork for which began under the previous government, which concerns communications and which does not include any kind of surveillance," government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos told reporters.
He specified that the agreement was currently in effect and that the public order ministry was seeking its modification for "technical and financial reasons".
